We, the Horn of Africa Organization for Indigenous People, are honored to have participated in the two-day cross-border capacity-building training organized by @PACIDA, in partnership with WHH Kenya – Welthungerhilfe, WHH Ethiopia, and CIFA Ethiopia.
As a civil society organization committed to promoting peace, inclusion, and the rights of indigenous communities in the border regions, we found the training to be both timely and transformative. The sessions addressed the pressing need to strengthen local peacebuilding capacities in areas affected by recurring conflict and social tensions, particularly in Moyale (Kenya) and the Oromia and Somali regions of Ethiopia.
We commend @PACIDand @WHH for recognizing the pivotal role of community-based organizations in fostering dialogue, promoting social cohesion, and preventing conflict. The training offered us valuable tools and practical strategies in conflict analysis, early warning systems, dialogue facilitation, mediation, and negotiation—all of which are critical for sustaining peace in cross-border communities.
We particularly appreciated the emphasis placed on women and youth inclusion, and the encouragement to build cross-border CSO networks. These approaches are vital for nurturing grassroots leadership and ensuring that peacebuilding efforts are both inclusive and locally led.
As an organization working with marginalized and indigenous populations, we leave this training strengthened, inspired, and committed to putting the knowledge into action. Our team has already begun working on localized action plans to integrate these lessons into ongoing community peace initiatives.
We extend our sincere gratitude to PACIDA and WHH for their leadership, vision, and investment in peace. We look forward to continued collaboration and collective action toward building resilient, peaceful, and inclusive communities across our shared borders.
