Strengthening Community Resilience to Prevent Violent Extremism (PVE)

Community members in Moyale Township came together for a Community Awareness Forum on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE), reinforcing the critical role that informed, resilient, and united communities play in building sustainable peace and preventing violence.

The forum enhanced participants’ understanding of the root causes, drivers, and push and pull factors associated with violent extremism, while equipping them with practical knowledge to identify early warning signs and support timely, community-led prevention efforts. Through interactive discussions, participants explored how communities can address vulnerabilities by promoting trust, inclusion, and collective responsibility.

A central focus of the forum was strengthening social cohesion as a foundation for resilience. Participants reflected on the importance of peaceful conflict resolution, tolerance, mutual respect, and inclusive dialogue in fostering peaceful coexistence across diverse communities. The session also encouraged stronger collaboration between community members, local leadership, government institutions, and other stakeholders to develop coordinated approaches to preventing violent extremism.
By empowering communities with knowledge, strengthening local partnerships, and promoting social cohesion, the initiative contributes to creating safer, more resilient communities that are better equipped to resist the influence of violent extremism and sustain long-term peace and stability.

This activity is funded by the European Union through the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) and implemented in partnership with Act Change Transform (ACT), reaffirming a shared commitment to supporting community-led initiatives that strengthen resilience, promote social cohesion, and advance sustainable peace.
