The Community Land Summit 2025 successfully concluded today on 26/11/2025 at the CBK Institute of Monetary Studies, highlighting this year’s theme: strengthening tenure rights and fostering an effective pastoral policy environment to enhance the livelihoods of mobile Indigenous peoples.
For Indigenous communities, land is more than territory—it is the foundation of identity, culture, and continuity. Yet many continue to face significant challenges, including insecure tenure, boundary disputes, and the fragmentation of essential grazing corridors.
The Horn of Africa Organization for Indigenous Peoples reaffirmed its commitment to supporting communities in securing full recognition and protection of their land rights.
This year’s summit brought together key stakeholders, including government leaders, officials from the Ministry of Lands, the CEO of the National Land Commission, civil society organizations, and Indigenous representatives from 15 counties in Kenya, as well as participants from Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and South Sudan.
We also recognize the essential contributions of The Christensen Fund, IMPACT Kenya, and Namati Kenya, whose partnership continues to advance community land governance and Indigenous land rights.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all organizers and partners for their dedication and collaboration in strengthening the rights and wellbeing of Indigenous peoples across the region.
