On 21st September 2026, the Horn of Africa Organization for Indigenous People joined communities, leaders, peace actors, and partners in Moyale to commemorate the International Day of Peace under the theme of unity, dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and community resilience.
The gathering brought together key peace and security stakeholders, including the County Commissioner of Marsabit, County Security Committees, the Deputy Governor of Marsabit County, representatives from the National Steering Committee on Peacebuilding and Conflict Management, the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya, cross-border peace committees, and a delegation from Ethiopia led by the Mayor of Moyale, Ethiopia.
We were also pleased to welcome development and regional partners, including Life & Peace Institute whose partnership and engagement continue to support peacebuilding and community resilience across the Horn of Africa.
This initiative is supported by the European Union through the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund and implemented in partnership with Act Change Transform, working alongside communities and peacebuilding stakeholders.
For HOA-OIP , peace is more than the absence of conflict. It is about dignity, inclusion, justice, respect for culture, secure livelihoods, and communities having a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their lives.
The participation of peace actors from both Kenya and Ethiopia was a powerful reminder that peace knows no borders. Our border communities share families, cultures, histories, livelihoods, and aspirations. By coming together, we strengthen the bonds that unite us and create pathways for lasting peace.
On this International Day of Peace, HOA-OIP renews its commitment to working with communities, government institutions, peace structures, civil society, and development partners to build bridges, strengthen dialogue, promote peaceful coexistence, and empower communities to become active champions of peace.
- 🕊️ Peace is a shared responsibility.
Dialogue builds bridges. - 🌱 Peace grows when communities are heard.
Together, we can build a peaceful and resilient Horn of Africa.
Happy International Day of Peace from all of us at HOA-OIP.
