TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES
Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Initiative
HOA-OIP supports sustainable livelihoods for indigenous communities by promoting access to clean water, supporting sustainable agriculture and pastoralism, and promoting income-generating activities. This includes building water infrastructure, providing training on sustainable farming practices, and supporting the development of local markets.
The primary objective of our program is to contribute towards improved health outcomes and livelihoods by ensuring equitable access to safe water and sanitation services. Through targeted interventions and community engagement, we aim to empower communities to take ownership of their WASH infrastructure and practices, ultimately leading to sustainable improvements in health and well-being.
Key components of our Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene program include:
- Water Provision: We work to increase access to clean and safe water by drilling boreholes, constructing water points, and implementing water purification systems. By ensuring reliable access to water sources, we aim to reduce the burden of waterborne diseases and improve overall health outcomes.
- Sanitation Facilities: We support the construction of improved sanitation facilities, including latrines and handwashing stations, to promote hygiene and prevent the spread of disease. Through community-led sanitation initiatives, we empower communities to prioritize sanitation and adopt safe hygiene practices.
- Hygiene Promotion: We conduct community awareness campaigns on water-related diseases and hygiene practices, emphasizing the importance of handwashing, safe food handling, and proper sanitation. By providing education and training on hygiene promotion, we aim to instill behavior change and promote a culture of cleanliness within communities.
- Waste Management: We support appropriate solid and liquid waste management programs to mitigate environmental pollution and protect water sources. By promoting waste segregation, recycling, and proper disposal techniques, we aim to improve environmental sanitation and safeguard community health.
Through our Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene program, we are committed to addressing the urgent WASH needs of ASAL communities like Moyale. By providing sustainable WASH services, promoting hygiene education, and empowering communities to manage their water and sanitation infrastructure, we are working towards a future where every individual has access to clean water and improved sanitation, leading to healthier and more prosperous communities. Together, we are transforming lives and building a brighter future through the power of WASH.
